Only Solange Could Pull Off This Bright Yellow Jean Paul Gaultier Gown

This year’s Glamour Women of the Year Awards honored a wide swath of women from all over the world, including the likes of congresswoman Maxine Waters, supermodel Gigi Hadid, and 19-year-old Syrian activist and UNICEF goodwill ambassador Muzoon Almellehan. And while the ceremony’s main purpose was to highlight all the groundbreaking work that each of these women accomplished in their respective fields, it also served as a fine platform for a number of memorable fashion moments, most notably a characteristically stellar look from one of Glamour’s Women of the Year, Solange Knowles.

The A Seat at the Table artist beamed in a bright yellow, high-neck Jean Paul Gaultier gown, which featured a high slit down the middle, with structured shoulders whose inner lining of lustrous gold fabric glimmered from underneath. She finished off the high-impact look, which was styled by Kyle Luu, with super strappy Y/Project sandals and matching yellow long satiny gloves, which she layered with a row of chunky bangles that lined the length of each of her forearms. Solange took the stage to speak about the painful moments she endured while developing her artistic voice, but she concluded that, however difficult this process had been, “It’s been free, it’s been beautiful, and it’s been mine.” And while wearing yellow may not have been a style choice imbued with much metaphorical intention, the brilliant yellow of her Jean Paul Gaultier gown only seems to further magnify Solange’s stunning and resilient inner light.
